1980   Completed tutor Modern Jazz Guitar Technique (Hampton HG 203).

Gave three solo television appearances (BBC and ITV).

Continued Jazz Guitar Workshops at Birmingham Arts Centre.

Attended four day Guitar Seminar with Barney Kessel (Newcastle).

1981   Appointed full time Lecturer in Guitar and Light Music at Huddersfield Technical College.

Obtained Fellowship Diploma in performance from Trinity College of Music (FTCL).

Compiled Duets for Classical Guitar Books I and II (with accompanying records and cassettes) Domino Pub.

1982   Appointed full time Lecturer in Jazz Guitar, City of Leeds College of Music.

Received Arts Council Jazz Bursary to compose a chamber concerto in memory of the late jazz bassist/composer Charles Mingus. The finished work 'Chazz' (pub. Hampton HF020) was performed at Huddersfield School of Music, Wakefield College and Leeds College of Music.

Directed and rehearsed a guitar ensemble which played for HRH the Queen during the opening of the Henry Moore Sculpture Museum, Leeds.

1983   Compiled syllabus for the first 'A' level Plectrum Guitar Option (Oxford).

Taught guitar at the Doncaster 'Big Band Summer School'.

Works published include:

1. Binary Guitar - a tutor dealing specifically with two-part work (Hampton HF058).

2. First Year Duets - a compilation of arrangements and compositions (Domino).

3. Jazz Guitar Workshops - a series of workshops covering essential jazz guitar techniques (Domino).

4. Two Compositions for Classical Guitar - Classical Guitar magazine (Nov./Dec.).

1984   Visited  America to research a biography of the late jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery.

Accompanied American Blues singer Jimmy Witherspoon during Leeds College of Music Jazz Festival.

Commenced series from Rock to Jazz for Guitarist magazine, became consultant/advisor for same.

Works published include:

1. Two Compositions for Classical Guitar - Classical Guitar magazine (Jan./Feb. - May/June).

2. Jazz Guitar Workshop Book II (Domino).

1985  

Commenced MA course (York University) reading Music Education with Prof. John Paynter.

Attended 3-day Guitar Seminar (Leeds) with Howard Roberts, Director of the Guitar Institute (Hollywood).

1987   Wrote plectrum guitar syllabus for the external grade, certificate and diploma examinations - Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Compiled handbook of set scales and arpeggios for same.

Elected Fellow of both Royal Society of Arts FRSA and College of Preceptors FCollP for outstanding contribution to music education.

Featured soloist at the Barbican Guitar Weekend (London).

Demonstrated Polytone jazz guitar amplifiers at the British Musical Instrument Trade Fair.

Works published include:

1. Improve your Sight Reading - monthly series for Guitar International magazine.

2. Fantasia for Unaccompanied Violin (No. 2 in G major) by Telemann, arranged and fingered for classical guitar - Classical Guitar magazine (Feb. Vol 5 No. 6).

Appointed examiner for Guildhall LGSM Diploma examinations (practical and paperwork). Wrote principals of teaching questions and sight reading tests for same.

Guitarist for Ian Carr, Pete King, Dick Morrisey, Jim Mullen, Don Rendell, Bill La Sage, Bobby Wellins and Digby Fairweather at Huddersfield Jazz Club.

Guest Soloist - Vintage Guitar Show Leeds

Composed Rhapsody for Guitar and String Orchestra.

Presented a seminar on Music Education for Adults (Leeds University).

Guitarist for Harry Beckett, Ronnie Ross, John Etheridge, Louis Stewart, Pete King, Kathy Stobart, Martin Taylor and Art Themen at Huddersfield Jazz Club.

Featured soloist at the Northern Guitarist show Manchester.

Composed Celebration Sonata for Graham Wade's fiftieth birthday concert.
